PITTSBURGH—Community College of Allegheny County student Anker Zhao, 15, of Cheswick has been selected as a 2019 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar and, as such, will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The Leaders of Promise Scholarship, sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, recognizes 200 Phi Theta Kappa members with awards totaling $200,000. This year’s recipients were selected by a panel of independent judges from nearly 900 applicants. Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars are selected based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential.
A dual enrollment student since 2017, Zhao is a member of the PTK Sigma Omicron chapter at Boyce Campus and is a student at Shady Side Academy Senior School. He is majoring in Mathematics and Science at CCAC where has completed 26 college credits and has a 4.0 GPA.
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program helps new Phi Theta Kappa members defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Scholars are also encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating in honor society programs and are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service and leadership potential. More than 1,200 applications were received.
Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders.
